Furniture Exhibit at the Grand Rapids Public Library

A Celebration of Grand Rapids Furniture Design - In honor of the over 100 year history of the Grand Rapids Public Library Furniture Design Collection, the Public Museum, Grand Rapids, Michigan has loaned the library six pieces of furniture from their extensive collections. In addition, there are two furniture items from the library's own furniture collection on exhibit. The items on display include a Tall Back Quarter-sawn Oak Side Chair Colonial Revival Style ca. 1900, a Table ca. 1930-1935 manufactured by the Century Furniture Company, a Mahogany Chair ca 1920 manufactured by the Grand Rapids Chair Company, a Mahogany and Cherry with Mother-of-Pearl Inlay Wood Windsor Arm Chair from the Old Sweet's Hotel ca.1895 manufactured by the Retting and Sweet Furniture Company, a Table ca. early 20th Century manufactured by the Imperial Furniture Company, and a Mahogany Chair ca. 1785-1800. Two items are also included from the library's own furniture collection, an oak Jacobean Chair from the Shakespeariana Club Collection ca. 1915-1925 manufactured by the Century Furniture Company and a Desk designed for the original Ryerson Library Building ca. 1904.
