Spindled Rocking Chair
1895-1910
The rocking armchair, with a dark oak finish, has a bent and scrolled crest rail and scrolled plank arms that are continuous with the back rail. The arms and back are supported by 23 twist-turned spindles. The lower bent rail that supports the back spindles attaches to the front near the stiles, which are double twist-turned. The single stretcher is twist-turned, and the seat is a scooped plank that was fitted with a cushion tied to the front stiles with rope tassels.

| Notes | Measurements: 30 ¾ in. high, 30 in. wide, 32 ¾ deep. The chair, attributed to carver, Joseph Heyda and to Phoenix Furniture Co., was donated to the Grand Rapids Public Museum by Miss Orsa Baert in 1985.
