Wood Batik Shops, Sideboard
1920s
The shallow carved panel on the door features stylized leaves and flowers, which are surrounded by a curved molding and two fluted columns that are repeated on the center drawers, displaying brass drop pulls. Beneath is a scalloped skirt or apron, the cross piece of the H-stretcher has a carved center, and the legs end in a modified ball foot. Several of the sideboard’s features suggest a Jacobean Revival style, one that was popular in the 1920s.

| Notes | Adolph Steil, who had previously owned the Adolph Steil Wood Turning Co., was president of the Wood Batik Shop. The sideboard from the Grand Rapids company, Wood Batik Shops, was sold by Alexander H. Revell & Co., a large Chicago furniture retailer.
