Gruenbauer's Tavern

A wooden bar runs across the width of the room at the back of the photo where two bar-tenders wait on customers. Three large decorated kegs at bar height are behind the bar. A mix of German folk art and realistic painting fills the walls. The one on the left has both folk art and a realistic scene of men and women seated around a table with a pitcher. The back wall is decorated with folk art, and the one on the right has a realistic scene of a storm at sea and possible ship wreck. The men are dressed in a variety of clothing and all except one, who holds his hat on his knee, wear their hat or caps. Several chairs and tables fill the bar, and two tables on the left are raised slightly from the floor on pallets. An electric light, attached to a ceiling fan, makes a bright spot on the photo. Another fan can be seen above the center keg.
