Carl H. Eggebrecht
1904 - 1991
Born in Chicago in 1904, he began his design education at Central High School, continuing at Grand Rapids Junior College while studying art. His practical training began with the Grand Rapids Chair Co., and later in the design department of Berkey & Gay.
In early 1930, Eggebrecht began freelancing with his father, William H. Eggebrecht, whom he admits was his best teacher.
In the 1950s he was designing furniture for the Grand Rapids Upholstery Co. and the Colonial Arts Furniture Shop, both of Grand Rapids, and also for Davis-Randolph Corp., Jamestown Sterling Co., and Norquist Products Co., all of Jamestown NY.
Like his father, he is versatile in either period or modern and in case goods or upholstered furniture.
In 1966 he served as president of the Grand Rapids Furniture Designers’ Association.
