The Civic Flag of Grand Rapids, Michigan was chosen by the Committee of Award from nearly 600 designs submitted in competition for a prize of $25, offered by the Evening Press. The design, as chosen, was without lettering or factories, which have been added to give life to this picture.

Conger, George DeHaven, Hon. J. W. Champlin, Hon. T. J. O'Brien. Adopted by the Common Council, Monday Evening, March 9, 1896
