Title by cataloger. When furniture rods were in use in furniture factories, the detail drawing would be transferred to a wooden rod to preserve it. Woodworkers learned how to read the detail drawings, and could construct a piece of furniture without taking any additional measurements as the drawing on the rod was the actual size of the particular piece of furniture.
