Baker Combination Bookcase
1900-1910
In the early days of Baker Furniture, their main product was a combination desk and bookcase, which sold 'two for $10'. The wood is oak and oak veneers; the stripe in the grain, a veneer, is quarter-sawn oak. The curved glass door protects the bookcase portion from dust; the desk portion has three drawers with the writing surface located behind the drop-down cover. The desk section has what is known as a bonnet top because of its rounded shape, like a lady's bonnet.
